Thousands of Cameroonian youths joined a patriotic march in support of the military fighting against the Boko Haram insurgency in the north. The march was organized by a coalition of journalists who have been reporting on the war on Cameroon’s northern border with Nigeria.

The young people marched through the streets of Yaoundé carrying high the flags of Cameroon and Chad, the two countries that have deployed troops to join the Nigerian army in fighting Boko Haram. Journalist Guibal Gatama of Cameroon’s L’oeil de Sahel newspaper, main organizer of the event, inspired thousands when he described this event as a sign of solidarity for the millions of people suffering as a result of Boko Haram terrorism.
Champions of I Am Cameroon present at the event lauded the initiative because it fulfills the mission of the movement, that of creating a better future for Cameroon by engaging Cameroonians to accept responsibility for the future of their country.

It was very important for Cameroonians to be a sign of solidarity for the 150,000 internally displaced people, for the 200,000 Nigerian refugees and the 170 schools that have been closed.

Such initiatives can galvanize the military and clearly show the terrorist group Boko Haram that the people are united against them.

I Am Cameroon once again strongly condemns the perpetration of acts of terrorism and stands with the Cameroonian Armed Forces in the fight against Boko Haram.

God be with us!
